( Latin: Curculionidae )
The weevils form the largest family in the animal kingdom, with more than 40,000 known species. A few of them can be regarded as minor pests of worked timber. One of the species concerned, Codiosoma spadix, is 3-4 mm long and brownish- black with a very short, powerful snout. It only attacks timber which has previously been infected with fungus, and may thus be regarded as a secondary pest.
