Latin: Periplaneta americana.
The large, beautiful American cockroaches are originally from central Africa, but have been shipped to the United States on slave ships. They are seen regularly in food, but do not thrive under Northern European conditions. A similar species the Australian cockroach is also found in food occasionally. Both species can only survive under special circumstances in temperate climates, for example in warm greenhouses and conservatories.
